Chapter 8

KEY POINTS OF COMMUNICATION: This section in the book includes helpful hints when sending professional letters. The writer should always state their purpose clearly and define what you want from the reader. Also, make a list of the keys points you want to establish to eliminate clutter. From that outline, make a rough draft. If you are addressing something that you are upset about, allow for some time to cool-down so you do not convey any emotions in your letter. When you are done, look over your final letter and make revisions.

SELECTING THE MEDIUM: There are many mediums that one can choose from including, e-mail, instant messaging, fax, voice mail, letters, memos, conferences, telephone calls, and meetings in person. It is very important to select the right medium according to who you are talking to and what message you would like to portray. Do not get stuck in a rut of only using one medium because it may not apply in all instances. One must always consider the audience, content, and objective. Different mediums serve different objectives and provide different advantages.
